Connect Water Heater To Pex Piping

Connect the pipes using pex fittings and the expansion tool.

Stainless steel corrugated connectors can be used as an alternative to hard piping. Run new pex piping through all the locations where the polybutylene used to be. Step 1 shut down the water supply. Pex can t be directly connected to a water heater.

Cut and remove all the polybutylene piping from the house. Installing a sharkbite water heater hose. Step 4 prepare the pex tubing. Shut down the water supply first before working with the connection.

Step 3 solder the copper stub to the water heater. Pex has a distinct advantage over these materials because of its flexibility which allows one end of pex pipe to connect to a pex manifold the main water control system and then wind through. Step 2 connect the metal connector to the water heater. Water heater hoses with ball valves provide a shut off on the supply side of the water heater.

First extend a pipe 18 in. From your water heater and connect the pex to the pipe. To bypass the heater core you need to remove the two water hoses going through the firewall from the engine compartment to the heater core and connect them together so that the water loops around. Shut the water off to the house and open all the faucets in the house to remove any water remaining in the pipes.
