Convert Cabinet Door To Drawer

During the refacing process we convert lower cabinet doors and the paired drawers into a banks of three deep full extension cabinet drawer boxes.

We were able to keep all the original doors intact by swapping in hinges with a wider door opening angle to give the drawers the freedom to pull out. This will allow the drawers to open and close without touching each other. Reinstall the cabinet door onto the cabinet and repeat this process for every cabinet door in the kitchen. Then add clearance.

For this step you will first need to measure the width of the cabinet doors that are now going to be the drawer fronts. See the ikea products chris used. In my case the cabinet doors were 11 wide so i needed to install the top drawer 11 above the bottom drawer. For the drawer slides start by removing the drawers and slides from the cabinet using the screwdriver.

Do one cabinet at a time and keep track of the order of the drawers being pulled from that one cabinet as they can vary in size. We remove the center stile between the double doors to create the larger space for the deep drawers. Having kitchen cabinets from ikea made this conversion simple as we just had to invest in some rationell extending drawers.
